How To Balance Working From Home, Virtual Learning, And Motherhood
As if being a parent and devoting mother wasn’t enough, a global pandemic has been affecting the United States for almost eight months – causing nearly everyone to work and attend school from home. For parents especially, this has become extremely challenging! How can we virtually set up our children to focus on school and work from home and feed and care for our kiddos all day without feeling overwhelmed? It’s a task for a superhero – and CBD.
BEFORE COVID-19
The stress of being a mom is not new – how could it be? A survey in 2019 found that 51% of moms feel discouraged when it comes to managing the stress of work and motherhood. In the same survey, it was found that ⅓ of moms say their mental and physical health is suffering, and that our society does not do a good job of supporting them. There are many stressors with being a parent and it isn’t possible to mention them all, but here are a few.
With the time demands that come with being a parent, it’s easy to feel like there simply aren’t enough hours in the day. Us moms especially are having to sacrifice much needed time for ourselves in order to take on a larger role of caring for our children, causing great amounts of daily stress. Additionally, surrendering a full income in order to stay at home while also having a new child is extremely expensive, and if we wanted to work during the day and hired help, extra hands are not cheap and can add even more stress to the financial table. Last but not least, keeping up with relationships and having kids may be one of the hardest tasks possible! When kids are young and need attention 24/7, it’s common for relationships to take a back seat: keeping up with friends, siblings, or even spouses is a job in itself. But without these relationships to turn to when we need them most, we are left on our own to handle each and every problem which will only cause us to feel even more overwhelmed.
THE PANDEMIC
The pandemic has made pre-COVID motherhood look like a piece of cake. Now, it’s more likely that the whole family is home, but preoccupied with school or work. Young kids are having to attend school via a computer, which can make it difficult for them to stay focused and do their work for the entirety of the school day. Teachers are blessings, and parents are used to handing their kids off to the pros. However, all moms have gained a new teacher title this 2020. Also, besides being a parent, we have jobs that we need to do in order to pay our bills and support our families, and doing so at home while managing small children and virtual learning is not for the light-hearted. According to the Harris Poll, 71% of parents reported that managing online learning for their children was a significant stressor. So how, as a mother, can you balance all of this?
